Navigating the Hidden Challenges of Health Centers’ Roles in Addressing the Opioid Crisis

This webinar provides an overview of the opioid epidemic, the role of prescription practices that have led to widespread addiction, and steps to approach patients with substance use disorder. The training will discuss the impact that substance use disorder has on families, caregivers, and health care and behavioral health providers. 

AAFP Credit System Seal

The AAFP has reviewed this Physical Mental Wellness and Crisis Interventions for Health Centers training and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. The term of approval is for one year. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This live session is approved for 0.75 AAFP Elective credits. Elective credits are available for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and medical assistants. Attendance at the entire live training and the submission of a post-training evaluation are required to receive credit.

Dr. Jenene Washington is a physician executive who has over twenty (20) years of healthcare experience and over fifteen (15) years of success in practice management, practice transformation, and operational excellence of healthcare organizations.

Dr. Washington has a passion for serving underserved communities and has worked as a practicing pediatrician and clinical leader in health centers. She has held roles Chief of Pediatrics, Associate Chief Medical Officer, Director of Patient Centered Services, and Chief Medical Officer. In these roles, she managed multidisciplinary medical practices that included primary care specialties, obstetrics/gynecology, School-based health, and behavioral health.

Dr. Washington is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Renaye James Healthcare Advisors, a boutique healthcare consultant group that works with healthcare practices and partners to transform them into high performing, high quality organizations. Her team implements new programs, obtains funding, attains accreditations, improves care processes to help organizations realize gains in revenue, quality, and patient loyalty.

Dr. Washington has degrees in Chemistry (BS), Medicine (MD), and Medical Services Management (MBA). She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), a PCMH – Certified Content Expert and Lean/Six Sigma Green-Belt Trained.

Lindiwe F. Greenwood, MD, FAAFP

Dr. Lindiwe F. Greenwood is a Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician with varied practice experience from teaching medical students and residents, to working on a Native American Reservation, to owning her own practice in Columbia, MD.  She most recently served as a staff physician for Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. She has had the fortunate opportunity to be involved with health care all over the country. 

Dr. Greenwood has a special interest in women’s health, adolescent medicine, preventive medicine, food allergies, integrative medicine, and Mind-Body Medicine. Dr. Greenwood is certified in Mind-Body Medicine from the Center for Mind-Body Medicine, in Washington, DC, where she recently joined the faculty. She has studied advanced coursework in Food as Medicine.

Dr. Greenwood enjoys sharing her insights, expertise, and experience through public and motivational speaking and writing.  After practicing traditional medicine for many years, Dr. Greenwood decided to combat disease with a more preventive approach. She uses her work to tackle Physician Burden/Burn Out, health disparities, and help bridge the gap between the healthcare system and the patients that utilize it. She is the author of “The Insider’s Guide to Good Medical Care.”  She currently aims to “Inspire, Educate, and Transform,” helping people, patients, and their families to live their best lives, practice self-care, stay informed, and navigate the healthcare system and its challenges.

Dr. Greenwood earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, where she was selected as an Echols Scholar (top 7% of the entering class).  Dr. Greenwood then went on to earn her medical degree at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at East Carolina University. Dr. Greenwood is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine, an honor bestowed on a select group of its members.
