
School-Based Health Centers: Proven Success Strategies (On-demand)
This webinar provides an overview of the importance of school-based health services in providing access to preventive and chronic care for school-aged children and the community. The presenters will share the steps to build a school-based health center and program, discuss staffing model options to meet patients' needs, and share recommendations for coordinating patients' care with the resources of a health center or the community.

The AAFP has reviewed this Strategies for Preventive Health and Chronic Disease in Maternal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Adult Care training and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. The term of approval is for one year. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
This live session is approved for 0.75 AAFP Elective credits. Elective credits are available for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and medical assistants. Attendance at the entire live training and the submission of a post-training evaluation are required to receive credit.

Dr. Avian Tisdale is a Board-certified physician and consultant who brings together expertise in healthcare, business, and law.
For nearly two decades, Dr. Tisdale practiced acute care pediatrics where she also taught scores of residents, students, and healthcare professionals. That experience shaped her ability to connect with people, break down complex problems, and design solutions that work in real-world settings.
Her leadership path includes executive roles at large health systems where she guided organizational growth, improved operations, and advanced quality of care initiatives. As Founder & CEO of DHM Consulting, she partners with organizations and individuals facing multifaceted challenges, drawing on her cross-disciplinary background to deliver practical strategies and effective outcomes.
Her career afforded her esteemed positions such as Division Director for Nemours duPont Hospital for Children in New Jersey where she was directly responsible for leading system wide transformation including digital health record implementation, a formal academic partnership with Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine, and a highly successful quality improvement program. She served as a Clinical Assistant Professor, at Rowan, preparing medical students and physician trainees for the future of healthcare. She was presented with a Proclamation of Service and dedication by her medical staff colleagues for steadfast leadership and compassion. Dr. Tisdale’s expertise earned her the role of Chief Medical Officer for two multi-site federally qualified health systems. In addition to managing departments of up to 200 employees she chaired the Quality and Credentialing committees.
Known as an engaging, and nationally-recognized, speaker and trainer Dr. Tisdale is valued for her ability to turn difficult concepts into better results. She also shares her expertise on physician health and leadership at universities and radio/tv outlets.
She earned her MBA in Finance from Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business and completed paralegal studies at the University of Texas at Austin.

Stephanie Ramirez, MHA
Vice President, School Based Health Clinics, Legacy Community Health
Stephanie Ramirez is Vice President of School Based Health Clinics at Legacy Community Health and is responsible for providing operational leadership in 39 School Based Health Clinics (SBHC), the largest such program in Texas. Stephanie’s primary role is to engage and build relationships with school and community leadership in Galena Park Independent School District and KIPP and YES Prep charter schools to ensure that students are receiving high-quality care and that clinic pediatric and behavioral health staff are supported in their clinical efforts and are identifying opportunities for future expansion.
Stephanie oversees an operations team of eight front desk team members who provide day-to-day support to nurse practitioners, therapists, and medical assistants, which includes supply management, outreach events, and school leadership engagement. Stephanie is also responsible for oversight of staffing, ensuring clinical efficiencies, as well as environmental and quality of care for communities with additional needs. In the 3 years with Legacy Community Health, the SBHC Program has provided clinical and behavioral healthcare to over 14,000 unique students, siblings, and children of school staff and completed approximately 72,000 combined pediatric and behavioral health appointments.
Stephanie received her bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science and her Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. She lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband of almost 29 years, and enjoys morning coffee, early morning workouts, skiing, and spending time with family and friends. She is also fluent in Spanish and enjoys speaking her native language while connecting with students and their families.
